We’ve lived in our house for four years and I never organized our shed. In fact, I’m pretty sure that the previous owners didn’t touch a thing, and the people they rented to didn’t do anything either. So, it’s a conservative guess is that no one paid attention to our gardening shed for a decade. My blogging pal, repurposedKate, suggested in this post we start a declutter project yesterday and finish it within four days. Here’s my before (actually, mid-process) and after. Continue reading

Why I Don’t Get Facials
About eight years ago, I asked a friend if she wanted to get a facial with me. Her reply was memorable, “No thanks. I don’t want to pay somebody $80 to pop my zits. I’d rather see a dermatologist and pay the $20 co-pay.” It got me thinking. Why did I get them? Did they really help my skin? Or is it yet another thing I spend money on for no reason? How I Keep My Car Clean, While Having A Kiddo
Yes, by now you can imagine that I don’t like dirt. But I also don’t like cleaning my car a lot. Now that it’s December in MN, I expect that there will be a lot of slush and stuff heading into the car. (Please God, not as much as last year!) Here are a few things that I do so that the car won’t get crazy dirty by spring. Continue reading
It’s Love
I bought this stick vacuum about a month ago, and it’s been awesome.
How To Dry Out The Rubber Gloves – Blech!
… so you know how I mentioned that I don’t like touching food in general? Well I have to admit that I hate getting my hands wet too. I rely on rubber gloves for almost all of my cleaning projects. And refuse to wash dishes without them. Sometimes water gets inside. Ugh. If I don’t do anything about it, they might start making my hands smell something awful. Are you as miserable as I am when that happens? Probably not, because you’re not as persnickety. But in case you are, here’s what I do… Continue reading
Yep, I’m Nuts
When do you have your carpets steam cleaned? Do you do it on a regular schedule? Or before a major event? How about after a major event? When you have kids at home, does this make things more complicated? I think my strategy is only for those who are sick in the head.
How To Clean Up Broken Glass Quickly and Safely
I was working in my office last week, when I looked out the window and saw the UPS man walk up my driveway. I headed to the front door to meet him and did not expect to hear the shower of glass shards that fell when I opened it. Our storm door looked like this:
Get Rid of Burned In Stains from Your Stainless Steel Cookware
Kiddo and Mr. J have a weekend tradition; they make French toast together. It’s delicious! But last week, their culinary adventure did a number on our favorite sauté pan. Even after running it through the dishwasher, it looked like this:
And this:
Unfortunately, I did not make any progress with elbow grease, soap and water.
How To Prevent Having A Grungy Plastic Bathroom Mat
Do you have a non-slip rubber bath mat in your tub? It works really well at keeping you from falling. But man, does yours get as grungy as mine? I learned a quick tip from my mom and dad!
The 5 Minute Car Cleaning Kit
I come from a family of car nuts. And by nuts, I mean, our driveway looked like the Tokyo Motor Show every Thanksgiving and Christmas. All these shiny new cars! All Japanese. (Sorry! At least many of them are now made in the USA.) At some point in my youth, I had a subscription to Motor Trend. I’m not kidding. So, it was kind of shocking when I got my first (yes, first and thus far only) car in 2003, when I graduated from business school. I love this car; It’s not anything super special, but I try to take good care of it. This includes cleaning the interior every once in a while. It usually takes about 5 minutes and saves me the need to have it thoroughly detailed, or the guilt of thinking I am not as good as my cousins when it comes to taking care of automobiles.
