I don’t wake up every morning and say, “I need to save the earth today.” However, since we moved to Minnesota, I recycle and shop with reusable bags. My motivation is simple: I either already pay for these services, or the services pay me back. Continue reading

Another Fridge Storage Idea
Do you ever clean out your fridge and find something you forgot you had? I used to, and it drove me nuts. Now I put a rotating tray in our fridge. Odd, huh? Here it is:
Now I check here first when I’m looking for something… or anything that we grab often or have a wide variety of.. like yogurt or jam. Maybe in your home it’s condiments?

Our First Reader Mail! Corral The Kid’s School Papers
We received our first e-mail recently:
…So, I have a question – what does one do with all the stuff that little kids bring home from school? Every day mine comes home with worksheets with smiley faces, drawings, teacher communication, etc. Any tips on how to lasso this stuff up front so we keep what matters and can efficiently (and sometimes quietly) discard the rest? (Ours tends to accumulate in backpack or in a big pile at home that then requires major triage. Sometimes a few stray pieces wind up in the car, too.)
Thanks!

In an effort to actually try new meals and get rid of useless paper, I have a new strategy.

They are pretty useful as garbage can liners, when you walk the dog, etc. But wow, our collection of plastic bags can get out of hand! Thankfully, a majority of grocery stores will recycle them for you. You can drop them off when you walk in. However, how do you store the ones that you actually want to keep? Here’s a super cheap solution for you.
What Do I Do With This?
There are times when I flip through issues of Real Simple, I feel compelled to buy all the neat stuff they suggest to keep organized. It’s like an editorial catalog of the Container Store. But I am not made of money. Heck, I don’t even have a full-time job. So I have to make do with what I’ve got right? Well, I realize that I have plenty. It’s just a matter of repurposing stuff.
